What is the best way to learn Spanish without living in a Spanish speaking country?
I am learning Spanish by listening to tapes in my car, using programs on the computer, but none of them give me the "real world" conversation or interaction practice that I am looking for.
I already know that the best way is to live in a Spanish speaking country to learn it, but was hoping for other solutions as I can not do this.
Does anyone know a good way acquire practice through interaction, whether it be with live people or some kind of software?

You will learn not only speaking but writing and grammar. It is a useful resource. Also you can always volunteer/work at places with a heavy spanish speaking population. This will give you a free but similar experience to being in a spanish speaking country
Is there a Spanish speaking church near you? That would be a good option.

Try watching TV programs in Spanish, on channels like Univision and Telemundo. My mom learned English by watching English TV shows like Wheel of Fortune, so if you watch talk shows or novelas in Spanish you might pick up on the "real world" conversation/interaction practice.

Why has nobody suggested this?
Make friends with a Spanish speaking person. How can you get more real world than that?
Go to a university and find a student who wants to learn English. You can trade lessons. Or find workers or ANYONE and just spend time with them talking to them and learning about where they are from. Show them your textbooks.
There are many many people who would love to do that, and you cannot get any more real world than that.

best way is to combine your methods, there is no 1 single product solution.
preferably
2-3 Spanish home study courses (i.e rosetta stone, pimsleur, rocket spanish)
1 good phrase book
1 weekly language partner (i.e http://www.myhappyplanet.com)

One of the best methods is practice listening music, just chose a song that is popular and then find the song lyrics and try to repeat what they are saying in the song. It is very fun.
