What is a quick and easy way to learn simple spanish? For instance, I would like to have a general conversatio
with the mexicans at the mexican resturants I visit
If you have an ipod, you can download the "coffee break spanish" podcast – for free! There are other ones too, but I like coffee break spanish the best. It has 15 min lessons that teach you words and phrases so that you can learn some basic communication in spanish
A good way to learn to speak Spanish fluently???
I really want to be able to speak Spanish fluently but I don’t really have the time or money to take Spanish classes. I’ve had a lot of Brazilian friends so I can understand some Portuguese which I know is very similar to Spanish. How can I learn to speak Spanish fluently!?
Also, how do I ask "So who is your lab partner?" in Spanish.
Make friends/hang out with spanish-speakers- this is the best way to learn a language! Also, try to watch spanish TV, read spanish books.
good luck!! :]
who is your lab partner: "quien es tu pareja de laboratorio?"

Is it becoming more/less common for latino en america to not speak spanish?
I am just curious, I met a kid whose whole family is mexican but they did not teach him spanish so he can be more americanized and he told me he hates when people assume he knows spanish. Is it becoming more common for 2nd/3rd generations of latino people in america to not speak spanish, or not know it fluently?
its pretty common but i think families should teach their kids their language.
my family taught me spanish even though we dont live in our home country anymore.
i think its important for the child to know his culture and language and its also a great advantage in life to know many languages.
but some people, especially hispanics, seem to worry that their kids wont "fit in" the american society if they speak spanish..
What are good things to pack if I am going to study spanish in Spain for a month?
For those who have experienced this…I am going for a month and I am doing the "Homestay" thing where you stay in the house of a spanish family..I will be going to Segovia.. also it would be helpful to know some things about Spanish customs that aren’t taught in school. Thanks!!
I will be going from end of June to end of July
Also is there anything nice that is good to give to your host family when you arrive?
mr_goura… had some good suggestions. I lived in Spain for 3 summers, so I’ll try to give you perspective about what you’ll need there. You will do a lot of walking, so take good comfortable shoes. Segovia is beautiful, can sometimes be a little windy, so may want to have a jacket on hand even though it’s summer. I’ve had a little trouble in the past with the plug converters for hair dryers, etc., so I recommend just buying a cheap one there if you need one. Your hosts will appreciate any gift really, but they usually enjoy something that represents home for you.
Be prepared to have a different meal schedule. Very small, light breakfast: hot chocolate or coffee and cookies for example. The lunch is a larger meal than you’re probably used to mid-day and you’ll get to try lots of great new foods, but it’s sometimes a little on the heavy side, especially in the summer. Be gracious and try to kindly express if the portions are too much for you. (this is why they siesta, you know) Dinner will come probably after 8 pm and be a little bit on the smaller side than lunch. As families, they usually eat slowly and converse quite a bit during mealtimes.
Youth are usually out late in the evenings at clubs and tapa bars.
Have a great time; Spain is wonderful.
How many Spanish words should I be learning a day?
I saw this advertisement for a Spanish learning program that boasted it’s students could learn 200 words a day. I don’t intend to buy any product because I think that I can learn Spanish myself for free with all of the tools I already have at my disposal… but my question is – how many Spanish words should I be capable of learning a day?
No, there is no way learning 200 words a day is possible. Besides, vocabulary is only about 70% of learning a language. You also need to know grammar structure, verb conjugations, and sentence formation. Besides, you only realistically need to know about 2,400 words to speak Spanish. Saying you would be able to learn to speak Spanish fluently and know every word in 12 days is a joke. That takes years and years.
cheers
Ed
